The event
Well... The festivities start Friday afternoon, August 18 at race central (Street). Once there you will get your number plate, infopack and other assorted goodies. After sign in we plan to drink beer, mingle and enjoy ourselves, rinse and repeat ad infinitum, ad nauseum...Saturday, August 19 we start the day with a wakeup breakfast at Street to get the racing jones in order, and after that we will gather for the ride to the race course. The specific course routing will be kept secret until the start of the race but the plan is that we will all ride togther to the start/finish area. Once we are there and everybody is sort of pointed in the right direction the race will start with all its drama and huffin' and puffin'and trailjoy and pain and fun and whatever...
After enjoying a post-race beer in the grass and watching the DFL competitors duking it out in a hard battle, we ride back to town. The winners will be hauled off by the powers that be to get their tattoos and the DFL to get his/her branding (hehe!) while the rest of us make our way back to Street to watch their pain and suffering on the big screen and drink some more beer. That will be the starting point for the Singlespeeders Ball, where prizes for the winners, losers and those otherwise deserving will be presented (in some cases by the sponsors themselves) and chosen, drinking will take place, eating might be a good idea, hanging out with tired legs will be on the agenda and we are pretty sure you all will make it a splendid evning/night to remember...
Sunday August 20 will surely be a slow morning, and we can all enjoy it at slow long brunch at Street while comparing race scars, beer tallys, social blunders, trail notes, dresscodes, stories about the previous evening's encounters of the sensual kind, bikeparts and all other important things that we singlespeeders think about. We expect that there will be a slow start for a lot of you and for us as well, but there will be a race this day as well. It will be the "race" for the honor of making SSWC-07 happen somewhere else on the globe, and all the hows and whats about that "race" will be announced that day. When the lucky chosen one has brought home the victory to his/her hometown, we all rise our beerglasses and give a final shout with our hoarse voices: That's all folks!
More info will soon appear about guided rides on nearby trails and bar tours and other pleasant activities both on the race weekend as well as during the weeks before and after the race. Watch this space...
